Why was Mr. Charles a Conservative? Because when you are blind you are more apt to see the truth.

Ray Charles kept his politics very private although he did openly associate with the Reagans during the campaign and after. He was once asked why he didnt play at the Democrat's Convention. He allegedly answered, "The Democrats wanted me to play but they coulndt come up with the money."

I had no idea Ray Charles was a conservative. I suppose he would be...he overcame so many obstacles and is a real example of how the human spirit knows no bounds. Great video! Thanks for sharing it.

Description

This is, in my opinion, the best version of America The Beautiful. Ronald Reagan felt much the same. Ray Charles, a long-time Republican, performed this song at the 1984 RNC Convention and again at Reagan\'s second inargural celebration. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate footage of either performance. This one is from 1991.
