Description
This is a short video on Max Weber's ideas. Although Max Weber was a socialist, he explained perfectly how the protestant ideas led to the rise of free market capitalism in the West.
Basically, Europe had been struggling from hundreds of years of darkness under the Catholic Church. There was no progress during this time. In the Middle East, however, scholars had preserved the works of Aristotle and were having a period of enlightenment (when advances were made in math and science etc). Europeans went to the Middle East and found the texts of Aristotle and there begun to be a movement away from the Holy Roman Empire and towards a more free market system.
This was championed by my favorite monarch, Queen Elizabeth I.
Hahah...good point Talionis...its one extreme or another!
Historically, progress has been in direct relation to
intellectual freedom.
If only the Middle East had
preserved that ideal. But, you overextend your reach, lose a few wars
and all of a sudden you want to blame your lack of faith and put a
sheet over your wife's head.
